Kendrick Johnson, a student at Reformed Theological Seminary, is following God’s call to Japan. Between 2006 and 2008, Kendrick spent over seven months in Japan. He was involved in numerous activities including living with a Japanese family while studying abroad and volunteering at a Christian adoption agency, all of which helped him develop a heart for the Japanese people. Kendrick was also a student leader of InterVarsity’s international student ministry on his college campus and is currently the international student assistant at RTS in Jackson.

With less than one percent of Japan’s population attending church, the Japanese are one of the world’s largest unreached people groups. Additionally, 80 percent of those who attend church in Japan are women. This means that in an average-sized church of 30 people, there are only six men. Japan is in need of young Japanese men who will lead the church in the future.

Kendrick plans to join the MTW team in Nagoya, Japan. His vision is to encourage and disciple young people in Nagoya, with a specific focus on developing young male leaders. During his two-year term, Kendrick will be involved in both university campus ministries and the ministries of the church-planting team.
